In the NHL playoffs, the New York Rangers edged the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 to tie their first round series at two games each. New York’s win also ended a six game losing streak at home in the playoffs going back to the 2015 Eastern Conference Final……Columbus got by Pittsburgh 5-4 to avoid the four game sweep and San Jose got a goal by Joe Pavelski after just 15 seconds of the first period in a 7-0 win over Edmonton to tie up that series at 2 games each.
Finland downed Canada 6-3 at the World Under 18 men’s hockey championship. Canada finished the preliminary round with a record of 3 and 1. Finland is undefeated at 4 and 0.
At the Under 18 curling championships in Moncton, the Justine Comeau rink from Fredericton, is 2 and 0 in girl’s play after winning 12-1 over the Northwest Territories and 3-1 over Nova Scotia. In boy’s play, Liam Marin of Saint John, representing New Brunswick, is 0 and 2 after losing 7-6 to Quebec and 7-5 to B-C.
