Thousands of families in Alberta affected by the wildfires are already getting millions of dollars from the Red Cross.
More than half the $50 million offered by the Red Cross went to 64-thousand people for immediate financial assistance.
In 24 hours, $30 million was transferred electronically to people to help them buy basic items.
It is the largest and fastest distribution of immediate financial aid in the history of the Canadian Red Cross.
President and CEO Conrad Sauvé says this is a precedent setting effort, and reflects the outpouring of generosity of fellow Canadians.
As long as they were registered with the Red Cross, adults got $600 each, with children receiving $300 each.
This comes alongside the distribution of $100 million from the Notley government.
So far, Canadians have donated more than $86 million to the Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal.
