Ambulance New Brunswick has begun the recruitment process for the advanced care paramedic pilot program, which will provide additional support to ambulances.
Coordinator of Clinical Education for Ambulance New Brunswick Ben Hunter says there are four sites where the positions are being offered as a part of the pilot program…Saint John, Moncton, Bathurst and Edmundston, “The pilot phase will give us some data to see how this project is going to fit with the province of New Brunswick. We have kept it small and lean so that we can make adjustments because this is not new to the country but it is new to our area specifically.”
Each site will have one response vehicle with one advanced paramedic, “We currently have advanced care paramedics that are licensed by our licensing body within New Brunswick, but they are practicing at a primary care level. This will give those people an opportunity to apply and participate in this project, “Hunter adds.
Ambulance New Brunswick plans to recruit eight full-time and eight casual advanced care paramedics as part of the first phase of the program, and they hope to have them in place as early as April.
Recruitment is only being done in New Brunswick.
Ambulance New Brunswick is responsible for providing air and land ambulance service throughout the province. It is a team of about 1,000 health-care professionals, including paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers and critical care flight nurses.
