Thursday Morning Sports For January 26th

n the NHL, Frederick Andersen made 22 saves for his second straight shutout and Auston Matthews scored his 23rd goal of the season to lead Toronto to a 4-0 win over Detroit….Steve Mason got the shutout in Philadelphia’s 2-0 win over the New York Rangers….Edmonton shut out Anaheim 4-0 with Cam Talbot making 26 saves……The Oilers have won 8 of their past 11 games and Vancouver got by Colorado 3-2.

The Saint John Sea Dogs are 9th in the latest ranking of the best junior teams in the country.

At the Canadian Junior Curling Championships, the Samantha Crook rink from Oromocto is 4 and 4 after winning 9-3 over the Northwest Territories and losing to Manitoba 8-5. In men’s play, Liam Marin of Thistle St. Andrews, representing New Brunswick, lost to B-C 8-3.

At the Australian Open tennis championships, Venus and Serena Williams will face eachother in the women’s final.

In the NBA, the Toronto Raptors lost their fifth in a row, 101-99 to Memphis. In other play, it was Boston 120 Houston 109……Sacramento 116 Cleveland 112 (OT)…..Golden State 113 Charlotte 103….Miami 109 Brooklyn 106….Oklahoma City 114 New Orleans 105…Atlanta 119 Chicago 114…..Philadelphia 114 Milwaukee 109…..Dallas 103 New York 95 and Portland 105 Los Angeles Lakers 98.
