Generators Flying Off Store Shelves After Ice Storm

There has been a major rush for generators since the ice storm last week. For most, it was to offer a little bit of light in their homes, while others use them to keep their refrigerators and freezers running.

Others, are looking at it as an investment for the future, in the case there is ever another storm like last week.

Owner of Toys for Big Boys Larry Northrup says one of the things they do is letting people know about the safety of generators, “There were some people who have transfer switches built into their homes, and had everything organized. But there are others who had to run extension cords. The biggest thing is, letting people know about the safety of generators and where to place them. Some people go out and rent a generator and have no idea on how to operate one. The education on that side is huge, making sure everyone is safe is a huge thing.”

Two people have died and 31 others are being treated for carbon monoxide related injuries, who were believed to be using generators over the past week, after losing power.
