With the federal government planning on legalizing recreational pot in less than a year, the province is going to be introducing legislation to create a cannabis research and education fund.
Finance minister Cathy Rogers says in a release that the legislation, called the Cannabis Education and Awareness Fund Act, will make sure there’s funding in place for research, education and awareness programs to be in place as we get ready for the legalization of pot by July 2018.
There will be an advisory board created that will set guidelines and recommend projects for funding and this fund will be supported by the Crown corporation that will oversee and manage the selling of recreational pot.
Recently it was announced by the province that the legal age for marijuana consumption will be 19.
