Canadians have more than 1 million potentially unnecessary medical tests and treatments every year according to a new report from Choosing Wisely Canada and the Canadian Institute for Health Information.
The report entitled “Unnecessary Care in Canada” claims all this testing doesn’t help patients and the treatments may harm them.
One in 10 seniors used a sedative-hypnotic sleep aid caled Benzodiazepine regularly with the highest per capita usage in New Brunswick even though it’s not recommended by experts.
The report concludes unnecessary tests and treatments also waste money and increase wait times for patients.
