Officials with the Department of Seniors and Long Term Care say meetings have been ongoing with private special care home operators and residents of those homes in New Brunswick to address rising daily fees.
Moncton Northwest MLA Ernie Steeves, opposition critic for Seniors and Long Term Care, says senior citizens should not have to worry about finding another place to go if they can’t afford their current home.
“That’s a tragedy. Not just a concern, it’s a real tragedy. These homes become a home to them. That’s what we’re discussing… where do we go from here,” he notes.
Steeves says the Tory caucus will be meeting on Tuesday to discuss the concerns of seniors advocates.
Seniors groups want the province to regulate daily fees at special care homes which already happens elsewhere in Canada.
