Province Called On To Impose Sugar Tax

Provincial Green Party Leader David Coon is adding his voice to a coalition of health organisations calling for a sugar tax to be imposed on sugar sweetened beverages in New Brunswick.

According to Coon, 64 per cent of adults in the province and 36 per cent of children are either overweight or obese.

The coalition of health organisations includes Diabetes Canada, the Dieticians of Canada, the New Brunswick Medical Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Coon says the money raised from such a tax could be reinvested into healthy living initiatives.
