Premier Gallant hopes to keep the discussion going on how the province might be able to help the City of Saint John with its many financial challenges.
He says he is scheduled to meet with Mayor Darling.
Gallant was asked if he’s concerned about the coming retirement of Saint John police chief John Bates and the major cuts to the police service.
He says he won’t speak for the police chief as he has no idea why he came to this decision but they want to wish him well and thank him for everything he did
for this region.
As for the Saint John police union’s complaint that the Mayor could be violating the police act, he’s sure the Minister of Justice and Public Safety will be happy to respond.
