An uptown Saint John resident is dealing with the aftermath of post-tropical storm Dorian after a tree fell on his car.
Chris Ryker says he’d parked his car on Germain Street for the day when Saturday’s high winds knocked a tree into the street.
He says luckily, there’s not much damage.
“I got pretty lucky it looks like—as lucky as you can get when a tree falls on your car. The back window is shattered, and there’s a dent in the trunk and along the side of the roof, but other than that it looks like it might be okay,” he said.
Ryker says he won’t know for sure until he takes it in. He says having a heavy tree sitting on his car all night long may have damaged his shocks or wheels.
Pictures of the scene have been making their rounds on social media, which is how he found out.

“My friend texted me and said, ‘your car’s not on Germain Street, is it?’ and I said ‘yeah, why?’ and then he sent me a picture that had been taken earlier that day, and sure enough it was my car,” he said.
He says hindsight is everything.
“I was arriving late at night and I figured that there wouldn’t be a spot available on my street, and when I walked around the corner, there was two big open spots available, and I said well, I’m just around the corner, I’m not going to move my car. I really wish I had now,” he said.
Winds in Saint John on Saturday peaked around 95 km/h, tearing down trees and power lines across the city.
Crews across the city, province and region have begun what is expected to be a large amount of clean-up.
