Donald Trump Wants NAFTA Renegotiated Sooner Rather Than Later

President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Trudeau have talked over the phone as the new President has announced his desire to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement during his first 100 days in office.

In his speech to mark the inauguration, Trump vowed his administration will be all about putting America First. There is some apprehension about what that will mean for Canada. Trudeau points out the two economies are interconnected with Canada being the number one export destination for 35 of the American states.

90 per cent of exports from New Brunswick go to the U.S.

The federal cabinet is holding a two day retreat in Calgary. The Canadian Ambassador to the U.S., David McNaughton believes Mexico is the real target for any changes to NAFTA.

The first foreign leader to meet Trump face to face will be British Prime Minister Theresa May later this week in Washington.
