Noise Bylaw Under Fire

The owner of the Canterbury Lounge on Canterbury Street is appealing to Common Council to change the noise bylaw as it applies to businesses in the bar/restaurant district of the uptown.

He’s warning his business which employs 10 people might have to close unless the bylaw is changed.

Sam MacKay has operated his bar since 2010 and says there were no complaints until this past year when he was ticketed twice. MacKay now is looking at the possibility of being fined from $500 to more than $21 hundred.

Deputy Mayor Shirley McAlary has heard other complaints and wants the bylaw revisited.
