An Afghanistan veteran is one of four members of a family found dead in Antigonish County, Nova Scotia and the RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.
Mounties say the victims – two women, ages 52 and 31, a 10-year-old girl, and a 33-year-old man – were found dead inside a home in Upper Big Tracadie last night.
All four died of apparent gunshot wounds and the man’s wounds appear to be self-inflicted.
Police say there were no signs of forced entry into the home.
The Canadian Armed Forces has confirmed the man was Lionel Desmond, who had been based at CFB Gagetown until his release in 2015.
Desmond had been deployed to Afghanistan from January to August 2007.
Relatives and friends on social media have said he had been suffering from PTSD – Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Police found two firearms inside the home but police are still searching the scene.
