Federal Election Kicks Off With First Leaders Debate

Campaigns are officially underway for the 2019 federal election.

The federal leaders spoke to their supporters across the country on Wednesday after writs were issued in all 338 ridings.

Platform points such as the economy, the environment and ethics were brought up.

The first leaders debate takes place in Toronto at 9 p.m. Atlantic Time.

The two-hour, English language debate will centre on four major themes: the economy, foreign policy, Indigenous issues, and energy and the environment.

So far, Conservative leader Andrew Scheer, Green party leader Elizabeth May and NDP leader Jagmeet Singh have all confirmed their attendance.

No word yet from Liberal leader Justin Trudeau on whether he will also take part.
