Former Coast Guard Site Will Soon Be Busy

Expect to see activity on the former Coast Guard site soon to make way for the new home of the New Brunswick Museum.

Saint John council has awarded a $368,000 contract to tear down several buildings on the site.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser told our newsroom the demolition should begin “within the next week to two weeks”.

The museum unveiled preliminary designs earlier this week and CEO Bill Hicks told us seeing the progress is very exciting.

“We’re looking at opening the doors to the public ideally in the fall of 2023,” said Hicks. “[It] seems like a long time but it’ll go pretty quick.”

Hicks said one of the next things they need to start thinking about is relocating the artifacts and exhibits, which he describes as a “huge effort”.

He said they will host open houses across New Brunswick over the coming weeks to gather more feedback on the preliminary designs.
