Moncton Student Hopes To Help Find A Cure For Parkinson’s Disease

A grade 12 student at Bernice MacNaughton High School is hoping she will be the one to find a future cure of Parkinson’s Disease.

Beatrice Huh recently competed in one of Canada’s most prestigious science competitions through Sanofi Biogenius Canada.

She has done a lot of research into Parkinson’s disease, “I looked at a protein that could possibly be one of the causes of Parkinsons, and I found some convincing evidence that it could be used to cure Parkinsons.”

Unfortunately, Huh placed fourth in the competition and won’t be moving on to the national round.

But she says a women with Parkinsons that she met at the competition has inspired her to continue her research, “She told me, please continue working on this project. It made me realise that this is not just research. It is a last hope for people who have this disease.”

Her hope is to continue working to find a cure while attending University next year, but she hasn’t decided just yet where she will attend..
