It is with an appreciation for a life well-lived that the family of David Lockhart, husband of the late Esther (Cummings) Lockhart, announce his passing, which occurred on May 27, 2026 at Maple Ridge Enhanced Living, Oromocto. Born on March 21, 1946 in Saint John, he was a son of the late Percy and Sadie (Fisher) Lockhart.
Prior to his retirement, David was employed as A Deputy Sheriff and Coroner for the County of Saint John. He had a keen mind for puzzles and word searches. David also had a soft spot in his heart for animals and enjoyed looking after the resident cat, Gage. He will be greatly missed.
David will be forever missed by his loving niece, Carolyn Cummings; brother, Gordon Lockhart (Ferne); sisters, Mary Breau and Gloria Furlong; sister in law, Helen Lockhart; as well as many other nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, Walter, Russell, Dougie, Ronald and Kenny; sisters, Annie (in infancy), Audrey Kay, Rosie Lewis and Marjorie Cummings and best friend, Marlene.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) where visitation will take place on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. A Celebration of David’s Life will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Alzheimer Society, Canadian Cancer Society or your local SPCA would be greatly appreciated by the family.
