Hal Arthur Mawhinney

January 29, 1948  –  December 31, 2025

It is with deep sadness that the family of Harold “Hal” Arthur Mawhinney, announces his passing on December 31, 2025 at Bobby’s Hospice. He was surrounded by his beloved wife Sharon Ann (Forrest) and his loving daughters Jennifer Leigh and Kristi Ann.

Hal was born in Saint John, N.B. on January 29, 1948 to the late Hartley (Lamont) and Lillian (Johnson) Mawhinney. He grew up in Saint John, moving to Clarendon, N.B. in 1973 right after he married and only recently left his home of fifty-two years to move back to Saint John. .

He attended UNB in Fredericton until he decided “school teaching” was not in his future. He worked at McAvity’s for a few years, then in the oil industry until 1996 when he chose to become a “one man” contractor, gifted in all fields, studying and wanting to learn new skills, always curious. He built a beautiful home for his wife and children and also created many pieces of fine furniture throughout the house. At one time he built a small boat and even considered changing careers.

Hal loved living in the country and enjoyed all the wildlife, from feeding birds to raccoons. Reading was another pastime he enjoyed, many books were read over his lifetime.

He will be dearly missed by his wife and children, Jennifer and Kristi (Jason) and close friends, meeting many following his career change.

The family wishes to especially thank Dr. George Thornhill for his years of caring, Dr. C. Mackin for his kindness at the Saint John Regional Hospital and the doctors and staff at Bobby’s Hospice.

Arrangements are under the care of Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, N.B. E2M 2L3, 506-634-1701. There will be no Visitation or Funeral Service at this time.

For those who wish, donations would be appreciated to the Oromocto SPCA, 111 D’Amours Street, Oromocto, N.B., E2V 0G5.
