October 5, 1944 – March 18, 2026
With his family by his side, Jeffery John Joseph Mantin passed away on March 18th, 2026, at the age of 81 years old. Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland on October 5th, 1944, he was the son of the late Eileen and Donald Mantin.
Jeff was predeceased by his loving wife Karen Ann. He is survived by his children Doug, Stephen (Angie), David (Melanie) and John (Josie) and predeceased by Joseph Lee. Jeff had 9 siblings – Jeanette, Tony, Regina, Michael, Cathy, Kevin, Pat, Bernadette and Robert.
Also survived by his loving grandchildren Robbie, Tony, Jeff, Tanisha (Kyle), Joey, Lucas, Caity, Crystal, Stephen, Alex, Paige and Nathan (Shannon). Predeceased by Elizabeth. Also, nieces and nephews including Debbie (Leonard), Patti (deceased), Timmy and April (Brian), Brittany, Julie, Mark (Yanchang) with many great nieces and nephews and great grandchildren.
He was blessed to have Michelle and Jimmy (both deceased), Pat and Paul, Annie and Jimmy (deceased) and Gracie as special friends who were a part of his family.
Jeff was a homebody and found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved painting landscapes, taking care of his plants, crossword puzzles, mystery novels, documentaries, news and sharing interesting things he learned. He especially loved teasing all the kids and making them laugh. He told everyone that they were his favorite and made each of us feel special.
Jeff served as a cook in the Navy and then was proud to be an Insulator in Local 131 until his retirement.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the palliative care team, doctors, nurses and all the staff on 3DS of the Saint John Regional Hospital.
The arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (506 634 1701). As per Jeff’s wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. Online condolences can be made at www.Castlefh.ca
