It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Joseph Paul Henry Bernier, which occurred on Monday, April 20th, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 29th, 1957, in Saint John, he is the son of the late Anthony and Helen (Legere) Bernier. Paul worked as a Welder at the Irving Oil Refinery, Saint John Ship Building and Bourque Industrial Ltd. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and gardening. Paul loved spending time in his garage with friends and he would help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Paul is survived by his son Wilfred Bernier (Amy) of Saint John; daughter Deborah Martel (Yves) of Orange Hill, NB; brother Stephen Bernier (Brenda) of Saint John; sisters Annette Witherington (Jim) of Saint John, Cecilia Walsh of Ontario, Jeanie Bernier of Saint John; grandchildren Emily Butler and William Bernier; good buddies Barry, Stag and Blackie; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Along with his parents, Paul was predeceased by his brothers Allen and Eddie, sister Freda, brother-in-law John and cat Smokey.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) with visitation being held on Friday, April 24th from 12 to 2 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the chapel beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Paul may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
