It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Jurre Eeltje Osinga on Wednesday June 3, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a period of failing health. Born in the Netherlands, on March 13, 1954, to the late Jurre Eeltje Osinga and Sophia Maatje (Nijenhuis-Boer) Osinga, and widower of the late Kathleen Patricia (Shaw) Osinga.
Growing up in the Netherlands up until he was 18, he moved to Nova Scotia with his cousin and started farming. Getting to know locals and the community in the Annapolis Valley, he met Kathy.
After farming he switched careers and started long haul trucking, from which he retired from.
Jurre was a very kind soul, loved animals, spending time with his grandkids and family. Always had a way of making friends everywhere, having no problem striking up a conversation, he would always crack jokes with a unique sense of humor.
During his time in the hospital, he grew very fond of all the nurses at 5A South and the oncology department. It warmed his heart always receiving such great care.
Along his side were his children that were with him until the end.
Jurre is survived by his children; Megan (Osinga) Patten (Daniel Patten) & Benjamen Osinga (Jessica Osinga), grandchildren; Heston, Thane, & Maeve, nieces; Bernadette Leeman & Fayenne Vleeshouwers.
Jurre was predeceased by his parents; Jurre and Sophia Osinga, sister; Sophia Osinga and his late wife; Kathleen P. (Shaw) Osinga.
The arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (506 634 1701). Cremation has taken place. a Celebration of Jurre’s life will take place at Castle “Fallsview” Chapel on Friday June 12, 2026 at 2:00pm.
