July 9, 1934 – October 21, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lorna Alice (Stilwell) Newman on October 21, 2016, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Lorna was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, on July 9, 1934, to the late Eldon and Marjorie (Langmaid) Stilwell. She was the beloved wife of the late Herman Everett Newman.
Lorna trained as a hairdresser before dedicating herself to what meant most to her: her family. As a devoted wife and mother, she poured her love into raising her four children, Stephen, Donald, Tony, and Kim. Her family was the centre of her world, and she took great pride in creating a home filled with warmth, comfort, and love.
Lorna was known for her immaculate appearance and the pride she took in keeping her home neat and welcoming. She also had a special talent for baking, and her homemade bread, beans, and fudge were familiar comforts that brought her family together. These simple but meaningful traditions were a reflection of the love and care she put into everything she did.
Lorna was blessed with ten grandchildren, Hilary, Allie, Peter, Caroline, Mark, Phil, Monica, John, Chad, and Katie, and thirteen great-grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart. She cherished her family deeply, and the love she shared with them will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
Lorna is survived by three of her children, Stephen (Heather), Donald (Susan), and Kim (Jeffrey Bergeron); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Judy; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Eldon and Marjorie; her beloved husband, Everett; her son, Tony; and her brother, Buddy.
Lorna left a lasting and positive mark on everyone fortunate enough to have known her. Her kindness, the love she gave so freely, and the warmth she brought to the lives of those around her will not be forgotten. She will be deeply missed by her family, who will carry her memory in their hearts and treasure the many special moments they shared with her.
Arrangements are entrusted to Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue (506-674-1701). In keeping with Lorna’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
In Lorna’s memory, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
