Raymond Byard Lloyd

July 27, 1939  –  May 17, 2026

Raymond Byard Lloyd of Saint John, NB, husband of Donna (Cameron) (Roderick) Lloyd, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, at the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Home. Born on the family farm in Prospect, Kings Co. NS in 1939, he was the son of the late Elmer and Olive (Walker) Lloyd. Ray obtained his Electrical Engineering degree from the Technical University of Nova Scotia in Halifax. During this time, he met and married Bonnie (Weaver) Lloyd. They spent several years stationed in Shearwater, NS, Saint-Hubert, QC, Grand Bend, ON, and Sydney, NS with the Royal Canadian Air Force before settling in Saint John, NB where Ray worked 33 years for the New Brunswick Telephone Company.

Ray and Bonnie built a warm and happy family life, raising four children and creating countless treasured memories. Family vacations to Disney World, camping trips filled with games of Rummoli and Cribbage, paddling the SS Adventure canoe on the St. John River at Mactaquac Provincial Park, and Sunday afternoons spent cross-country skiing in Rockwood Park, were among the many joys they shared. Ray and Bonnie also enjoyed a wide circle of friends, and were longtime members of a mixed bridge club, and started their gourmet group which continues to this day.

Ray was an active volunteer with St. Pius X Church, Our Lady of the Assumption Church, and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick, where he gave outstanding service to his profession and to the province and was awarded a life membership. He also generously gave his time to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers; Boy Scouts of Canada; Home and School Associations; Relay for Life; Cancer Society; Meals on Wheels; Canada Volunteer Income Tax Program; and The Telephone Pioneers of New Brunswick. In retirement, he enjoyed curling at Thistle-St. Andrews Curling Club, golfing at Hampton and Rockwood Park golf courses, and was an avid gardener. He was always happiest working with his hands and generously helped his family with countless home renovations over the years.

After Bonnie passed away in 1992, Ray was fortunate to find love again, welcoming Donna and her four children into his life. Their home quickly became a place of laughter, warmth, and generous hospitality. They treasured hosting family dinners, greeting friends who stopped by, and the many trips they shared over the years. Together, they also continued their enjoyment of playing in mixed bridge clubs.

Ray was a kind and deeply respected man, whose love for his family and community was evident in all that he did. He had a calm and steady presence, listened without judgment, and offered quiet support and encouragement to those around him. Grounded in his faith, he faced life with strength, optimism, and grace. Ray remained determined to live as independently as possible even as he encountered significant health challenges later in life. Although his decline was rapid, Donna, his children, stepchildren and grandchildren are profoundly grateful that he remained the same beloved Ray, Dad, and Grampy until only a few weeks before his passing.

Ray is survived by his four children Andy (Colleen), Janet (David), Heather (Millen), and Jennifer (Mark); his four stepchildren Michael (Andrea), Geoff (Sheila), Stephen (Frances), and Kristen (Winston); as well as 16 grandchildren: Emily (Paul), Ian, Sean, Matthew (Annie), Meredith, Anna (Connor), Jack, Beth, Eva, Carson, Alicia, Carter, Will (Kathleen), Annika, Eli, and Raine. He is also survived by his three sisters Ada, Joan, and Mary, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by his first wife, Bonnie; Bonnie’s parents James H. and Iris; brothers, Donald and Willis; brothers-in-law, James P., Paul, James C., Arthur (Dot), and Lawrence (Betty); and sisters-in-law Greta, Helen (Lawrie), Freda, and Marg (Don). The family is extremely grateful to the staff of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home for their exemplary care and kindness during Ray’s stay there.
