February 17, 1959 ~ August 23, 2026 (age 67)
It is with great sadness that the family of Robert (Bob) Malcolm Mitchell announces his sudden passing on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Bob was born on February 17, 1959, to the late Marie (McCain) Mitchell Cormier and Malcolm Mitchell. Bob was raised in Glen Falls, east of Saint John. He met his wife, Cheryl Ann (Vicars) Mitchell, at the young age of 14. This past year, they celebrated 46 years of marriage. On November 14, 1981, Bob and Cheryl welcomed their daughter, Christy Marie, the pride and joy of their lives.
Bob’s early work career began at Willett Fruit, followed by Potacan Mine in Cassidy Lake, NB. For more than 20 years, Bob had his own courier service with Loomis Express, a job he did with dedication and purpose. Bob was an enthusiastic sports fan who got great joy from watching his favourite teams: the Montreal Canadiens, the Baltimore Orioles and the New England Patriots. He was an avid bowler, bowling in leagues in the North End and West Saint John.
Bob was not only a devoted family man, but his goodness extended to his friends and to any casual acquaintance he felt may be in need. Besides his wife, Cheryl, and daughter, Christy, Bob is survived by his son-in-law, Matthew (Matt) Bishop; adored granddaughter, Elyse Bishop; sisters, Susan (John) Davidson and Cathy (Wayne) Mitchell; sister-in-law, Shelley (Bruce) Patterson; brothers-in-law, Terrance (Terry), William (Billy) and Kevin Vicars; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Barb and Bill Vicars; brothers, Kevin and David Mitchell; and stepfather, Larry Cormier.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). A Memorial Reception will be held Saturday, August 29, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Fundy Funeral Home. A private family interment will take place in the near future. Donations in memory of Bob can be made to Romero House or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
