July 11, 1958 ~ October 30, 2026 (age 68)
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Roxinda Ann Ring on Friday, October 30th, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the love, laughter, and countless cherished memories she leaves behind.
Roxy was the daughter of Arthur Wilmot McConkey and Donna McConkey-Callum (Guptill). Born on Grand Manan Island on July 11, 1958, she spent much of her life in Saint John and Grand Bay-Westfield, building a life centered on family, friendship, and community.
Roxy will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Ernie; her children, Dayne (Jessica) and Myles (Mary-Ann); and her cherished grandchildren, Hunter and Callie Rose. She is also survived by her sister, Greta (Andre); her brother, Brock (Cheryl); her brother-in-law, Terry; her stepbrothers, Bill (Nadine), Ian, and Reg; and several cousins, aunts, nieces, and nephews. She shared a particularly special bond with her cousin Anzonette, who held a dear place in her heart.
Roxy was predeceased by her father, A.W. “Red” McConkey; her mother, Donna Callum; her stepfather, Bill Callum; her stepsister, Cathie; and many beloved grandparents, aunts, uncles, and extended family members.
Roxy shared a special bond with her maternal grandparents, Leonard and Ethelsa Guptill of Grand Manan Island, whose love helped shape the devoted grandmother she would become. Hunter and Callie Rose were the light of her life. From lullabies and bedtime stories, especially I’ll Love You Forever, to cheering them on at sporting events, Roxy made sure they always knew how deeply they were loved. Her familiar greetings of “Hi, Honey” to Hunter and “How’s Grammy’s girl?” to Callie Rose will forever be treasured.
Community was at the heart of everything Roxy did. As a dedicated member of UCT Jack Kidd Council 755 in Saint John, where she served as Council Chaplain, and Grand Bay Baptist Church, she generously gave her time through Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, the Deacons’ Board, and the Leadership Team. The friendships she built became family, and her welcoming spirit, helping hands, and compassionate heart made everyone feel they belonged.
One of Roxy’s greatest legacies was founding and directing Tiny Treasures Preschool in Grand Bay-Westfield. Beginning in her own basement, the preschool eventually found a home at Grand Bay Baptist Church as the Tiny Treasures Learning Centre. Roxy lovingly cared for generations of children and built lasting relationships with their families. Affectionately known simply as “Roxy’s,” Tiny Treasures became much more than a preschool; it was a place of love, connection, and belonging that left a lasting mark on the community.
Roxy was a kind, compassionate woman who found joy in bringing people together. She loved sharing a meal with friends, welcoming visitors for tea, and enjoying a good conversation. She also loved travelling, especially cruising to destinations such as the Bahamas, Mexico, and the Cayman Islands, as well as exploring Canada and the United States. At home, she enjoyed games on her phone and her favorite home improvement shows and Law & Order. Whether travelling or enjoying life’s simple pleasures, Roxy’s warmth, humour, and love for others always shone through.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the oncology team at Saint John Regional Hospital, especially Dr. Gray, the staff and volunteers at Bobby’s Hospice, and the staff at The Medicine Shoppe in Grand Bay-Westfield for their compassionate care and support. We are also deeply grateful to Grand Bay Baptist Church and UCT Jack Kidd Council for their prayers, visits, cards, phone calls, and meals. Your kindness brought comfort to Roxy and our family during a difficult time, and we will always be thankful for the communities that surrounded us with love.
Though Roxy will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the communities she helped bring together. She will be remembered for her generous heart, welcoming spirit, joyful laughter, and remarkable ability to make others feel loved and valued. The love she shared will continue to connect us and inspire kindness for generations to come.
Visitation will take place at Grand Bay Baptist Church, 77 Woolastook Drive, on Wednesday, November 4th, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. A UCT service will be held at 7 P.M. A Celebration of her life will be held at Grand Bay Baptist Church on Thursday, November 5th beginning at 1 P.M., followed by a reception. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed by visiting Grand Bay Baptist Church’s YouTube channel.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honour Roxy’s memory with a random act of kindness in your community. Welcome someone who feels alone, lend a helping hand, share a cup of tea, or remind someone they matter. In doing so, we can continue Roxy’s beautiful legacy of love, kindness, and belonging, one person and one community at a time. For those who wish to donate, Bobby’s Hospice or any charity that supports the needs of children would be greatly appreciated.
