Sylvia Almeda Jones

September 13, 1926 ~ April 13, 2026 (age 99)

In appreciation of a life well lived, the family of Sylvia Almeda (Thomson) Jones, widow of the late Clifford W. Jones, announce her passing on April 13, 2026, at Shannex Tucker Hall. Born in Dipper Harbour, NB on September 13, 1926, she was the daughter of the late William and Maud Thomson.

Upon completion of high school in Blacks Harbour, Sylvia attended Normal School in Fredericton and continued her education at UNB. Her teaching career spanned over three decades and allowed her to teach in three provinces of Canada and Scotland. Sylvia was always active in her church. She sang in church choirs, often singing solos, played the organ for congregational singing, taught Sunday School classes, and was a faithful member of the Women’s Missionary Society, often filling executive roles. She was a member of the Fundy Seaside Baptist Church in Dipper Harbour.

Sylvia is survived by her sister, Merle MacDougall of Dipper Harbour; and step daughters Jane Sherwood of Scarborough, ON and Susan Allen of Guelph, ON; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Clifford Jones, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Leigh Thomson and Stanley Thomson, and her three sisters, Juanita Spragg, Alma Rideout and Norine Thomson; and step daughter, Elizabeth Spour.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 12PM – 2PM in the Fundy Reception Centre, followed by a Funeral Service at 2PM in the Fundy Chapel. The interment will take place at Thomson Burying Ground, Dipper Harbour.
