Thelma Alice Lourie-Gosse

February 20, 1939  –  December 24, 2025

It is with heartfelt love that the family announces the passing of Thelma Alice Lourie-Gosse, after a short illness.

Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Bass Gosse; her parents, Elmer and Mary (MacKay) Lourie; and other loved ones gone before her. Left to mourn her passing are her stepson, William Gosse; her sister, Frances Lourie, her niece Lourena (Darcy) Brodie, and her children Anthony, Nathan, and Brianna; her nephew, Craig Nixon and his daughter, Crystal; her sister-in-law, Anna Lafreniere; her goddaughter and niece, Alexa; her niece, Gilann; as well as many cousins from both the Lourie and MacKay families, and the extensive Gosse family.

Born and raised in Glenwood, New Brunswick, Thelma attended Netherwood School. Upon graduation, she received her New Brunswick Teachers College certificate, later furthering her education with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, followed by a Master of Education from the University of New Brunswick. Throughout her career, Thelma taught in six provinces, as well as in Germany.

In 1983, Thelma returned with Bass to her homestead in Glenwood, where she taught Special Education and later became Principal of Brown’s Flat Elementary School. Following the death of Bass, she established the Gosse Memorial Scholarship Fund. She was also a dedicated member of the Retired Teachers Association.

An avid gardener and a member of the Grand Bay Garden Club, Thelma’s gardens were a source of beauty and joy to many. In her later years, she generously volunteered at the Hospice Shoppe.

Thelma’s greatest passion was travel. She truly traversed the globe, always returning home with photographs, trinkets, and wonderful stories that she delighted in sharing with family and friends.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, New Brunswick. (506-634-7424). Donations in memory of Thelma may be made to any charity of the donor’s choice.
