Premier Says He Will Meet With Saint John Council On Fair Taxation But Property Tax Changes Are Off The table

Premier Brian Gallant talked about the fair taxation issue raised by the City of Saint John during a media briefing after his non-election call announcement in Fredericton on Monday.

Gallant said he would be willing to talk to the Mayor and Council but changes to property tax would be off the table.

He says he is open to discussing a new deal for Saint John.

However, the new deal that Saint John wants includes having fair taxation and the lifting of an exemption to enable it to tax machinery and equipment.
