Saint John East MLA Calls Energy East Demise ‘Absolute Tragedy’ For NBers

The Progressive Conservative MLA for Saint John East is laying the blame for the project demise of Energy East at the feet of the premier.

Glen Savoie calls this an absolute tragedy for the people of New Brunswick and specifically in the Saint John region. The Energy East pipeline project was slated to bring western crude oil to the Irving Oil Refinery, which is in Savoie’s riding.

“It’s very clear, that starting back in November of 2014 when Brian Gallant ran up to Ontario and Quebec and agreed to change the parameters around this project that it was doomed from that point forward,” Savoie tells CHSJ News. “Today is just the end of a foregone conclusion based on the actions of Brian Gallant.”

Savoie says every project that they started in the Saint John area while they were in government is now finished.

“Every single one of them…Brian Gallant has shuttered every single one of them.”
