Road upgrades will begin soon in Saint John, Grand Bay-Westfield and Rothesay after a $1.4 million dollar investment through the Municipal Designated Highway Program.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser says the province and municipalities will cost share the investment.
Fraser says an additional $600,000 will be invested into the foundation rehabilitation on the Reversing Falls Bridge on Route 100.
He says the upgrades will help stimulate the local economy and build an environment for job creation.

Grand Bay-Westfield Mayor Grace Losier says her community will be upgrading sidewalks in conjunction with the investment.
She says it’s something that gets people out of doors and creates a healthy community.

Saint John Mayor Don Darling says he was pleased to see Saint Martins Road included in the road upgrades for this year.
Route 111 will be paved from Loch Lomond Road to the city limits.
Darling says a lot of tourists travel out to St. Martins as sort of a hub for the Fundy trail and calls it an upgrade that made sense for this year.

Rothesay Mayor Nancy Grant says the road upgrades on Rothesay Road from Rothesay Corner to East Riverside Kingshurt Park is very much needed.
Grant says the road averages more then 9,000 traffic movements a day.
She says adding substantial funds to the Designated Highway Program will be very effective in putting contractors to work in the Kennebecasis Valley.
